Monkey Gland with Gin Genepì and Blueu Absinthe

Do you already know the Monkey Gland cocktail? Although not very well known, it is delicious and balanced. It is part of the IBA cocktails or the cocktails selected by the International Bartenders Association for the annual World Cocktail Competition.

It means “monkey gland”. Yes, you read that right, and there is a very curious reason. Its creator Harry MacElhone, the founder of Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, called it this in the wake of a very heated discussion regarding a grand experiment by surgeon Serge Voronofo, in the 1920s, claimed to be able to donate new vigor to humans with a monkey testicular transplant.

But no to the picturesque curiosities of which the (pseudo) science of the beginning of the century is dotted, the Monkey Gland is a genuinely successful cocktail, concentrating on the crazy aroma. Suppose you use two exceptional ingredients: the absinthe Bleue by Larusée and the gin Genepì by o2Vie. The latter will indeed be able to further the grassy notes of the cocktail for a breathtaking effect.

Now let’s get to the recipe, which is very simple and whose final effect, even aesthetically, is truly unique. We recommend adding a finishing touch by garnishing the Monkey Gland with a sprig of rosemary and a slice of orange or lemon.

  1. Put the ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake.
  2. Pour into a cocktail glass, straining with the strainer.
  3. Garnish to taste with a sprig of rosemary and/or a slice of orange or lemon
